Montgomery Pilgrimage: A Reflective and Creative Journey is a two-part program (field trip & workshop) designed to immerse participants in the history, spirit, and legacy of the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the most significant movements of the twentieth century.
In 1955, one brave woman changed the course of history. Trace her footsteps and the others who followed for an unforgettable experience where Civil Rights became more than a dream; it became a reality! This two-part program will be guided by Dr. Ramona Hyman, a writer, educator, and speaker with over 38 years of experience.
The journey begins with an overnight trip to Montgomery, where participants walk in the footsteps of those who challenged injustice. Visits include the Rosa Parks Museum, Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parsonage, the Equal Justice Initiative, and others.
Following the trip, participants return to Huntsville for two days of creative reflection. Attendees will process their experiences with creative writing, allowing them to connect the past to the present through the power of language.
The cost of the trip is $200. Transportation and admission to museums are all provided. Cost of meals, hotel accommodations, and souvenirs not included.
The Montgomery trip is August 17 & 18, and the workshop at UAH is August 19 & 20. The workshop will be from 1:00 - 3:00 pm each day.
